State Profile
Michigan is one
of this country's most beautiful states ... with hundreds of miles of
Great Lakes shoreline, hundreds of smaller lakes, and thousand of acres
of deep, rich forests. Many of our fellow citizens—and REP
members!—are active hunters and fishermen as well as dedicated
conservationists who know the value of unspoiled natural areas and are
willing to work hard to protect them.
Two decades ago,
under the astute leadership of Governor William Milliken (a Republican
and now a member of Republicans for Environmental Protection), our
state was nationally known as an environmental leader. And we still
have some conservation heroes like Congressman Vern Ehlers. REP is
proud to claim both Governor Milliken and Congressman Ehlers as members
of our Honorary Board. And we are equally proud that Dr. Joe Schwarz, a
REP member from Battle Creek, served in Congress from 2005 to 2007.
But we need many more such leaders. We challenge the Michigan GOP to live up to our party's great conservation heritage.
The Michigan
Chapter of Republicans for Environmental Protection is making a difference. We welcome other
conservation-minded Republicans to join our chapter and make good
things happen for our party and our communities!
