REP Praises Bipartisan Climate Framework
December 10, 2009
The
bipartisan legislative framework released today is a useful step
forward for passing a climate change bill that would reduce pollution,
strengthen energy security, and spur economic growth, Republicans for
Environmental Protection, a national grassroots organization, said.
"We
applaud the hard work of Senators Graham, Lieberman, and Kerry in
producing the legislative framework. We especially thank Senator Graham
for his strong leadership. He is showing his Republican colleagues that
balanced climate legislation is the best possible path towards a
cleaner environment, stronger economy, and greater security," said
David Jenkins, REP vice president for government and political affairs.
"That outcome would be consistent with the stewardship ethic of true
conservatism."
"As Senator Graham pointed out, America should
have the cleanest air and purest water. The framework points the way to
a bill that would provide the regulatory certainty that business
leaders are requesting in order to invest in the low-carbon energy
technologies of tomorrow," said Jim DiPeso, REP vice president for
policy and communications. "The framework is a good step forward. We
call on senators from both sides of the aisle to work together in good
faith to finish the job and pass a balanced, effective climate bill no
later than next spring."
