State Profile
Virginia
is a beautiful state, with mountains, forests, seashores, and rivers to
visit and enjoy. Great places to see include Shenandoah National Park,
Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, the Great Dismal Swamp National
Wildlife Refuge, and the Jefferson and George Washington national forests.
Virginia has outstanding outdoor
recreation opportunties - great beaches in the Hampton Roads region and
on Assateague Island National Seashore, boating on Chesapake Bay,
sightseeing on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and hiking on terrific trails
that showcase scenery and Virginia's rich history: the Captain John
Smith Chesapeake, Overmountain Victory, and Star-Spangled Banner
national historic trails, and the Appalachian and Potomac Heritage
national scenic trails. National battlefields and military parks are
quiet preserves where visitors can reflect on the Civil War and its
meaning for America today.
Working together, we can conserve Virginia's outstanding natural heritage for the pleasure and benefit of future generations.
